The redistricting plan for Rockingham County Schools is full speed ahead after there having already been two public meetings and two more coming up. One of those meetings is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Broadway High School.
A major change was made to the original proposal after the first public meeting, and a new addition has some parents speaking out. Originally, students at Mountain View Elementary were going to switch to John Wayland Elementary, but that's all changed.
Parents in the Foxcroft neighborhood on Route 704 are now finding out that they are among the ones being affected.
Many families have known since the proposal came out that they would be redistricted, but the Foxcroft neighborhood is upset, because they are just now finding out.
"The Foxcroft Neighborhood on 704, those are the parents that are feeling upset, because they originally weren't being touched. Those children were staying right where they were. And then, after the first set of public hearings, that was changed," says parent Rebecca Poma, President of the P.T.A. at Peakview Elementary.
These public meetings are being held to make any necessary changes to the proposal. The final draft for the Rockingham County School Board will come at the last meeting on February 12 at Pleasant Valley Elementary.
