A major building in downtown Harrisonburg is on its way down. Developer Barry Kelley is preparing to make room for the Urban Exchange project.

A few weeks ago, a new apartment complex that could potentially house 400 people and some retail stores was announced. With the work that began this week, that complex is becoming a reality.

The Eastern's Auto Mall is pretty much gutted already and two other buildings are going to be demolished an the same two acre site within the next month.

The developer says everything is on schedule as of right now. Starting next week, a gas line that will have to be moved. Once that is done, the Chevrolet building and the Southern Electric Buildings will also be torn down.

The developer says within a month and a half, workers are going to start digging, so big changes are on the way.
