The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is trying to stop identity theft by getting hundreds of people involved in stopping crime.
In 2006, the DMV opened up a hotline for workers and customers to report cases of possible fraud at the agency.
The hotline got 1,477 tips in 2007, which is a nine percent increase over 2006.
Five people were arrested as a result of the tips last year.
Residents can report possible identity theft at the DMV by calling 800-ZERO-FRAUD.
