Friday morning may see some icy conditions on the roadways and VDOT crews are ready to jump into action. Crews began preparing by assigning members to be ready overnight for when the precipitation begins.
At the Verona Residency Office, crews are also preparing a special mixture formulated for icy conditions to put on the roads.
Timmy Fitzgerald, VDOT, says, "We'll use an abrasive mix, more so on this storm because it is ice and the abrasives are a salt and stone mixture, which gives you more traction on the road."
Crews are also getting chainsaws ready in case the ice causes any fallen tree limbs.
Fitzgerald says his crews will have this event covered, but if you don't have to drive Friday, he advises you stay off the roads.
