Teen pregnancy prevention experts at the Office on Youth report the pregnancy rate in Waynesboro is below the state average for the first time in ten years.
In 1996, 52 Waynesboro teens were pregnant. Ten years later, that number dropped to 44.
Office on Youth Counselor Ginny Newman credits the drop to the program teaching kids in school about teen pregnancy.
She says, "Healthy choices overall. How media influences students not just what they see on TV, but also the music they listen to. Helping them understand that they choices they make today could have consequences later which could affect their goals."
The teen pregnancy rates for Staunton and Augusta County also dropped. The Office on Youth mentors children throughout the Valley.
