Honoring Rosa Parks

Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks is being honored by Richmond's public transit authority.

Wednesday, the first seat of each GRTC Transit System bus was set aside as a tribute to the woman who refused to give up her seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955.

As part of Black History Month, each bus will also display a sign to honor Parks, who died in 2005.

Parks was arrested after she refused to give up her seat, which led to a bus boycott. The boycott ended with a Supreme Court ruling that declared illegal segregation on public transportation.
