State of Staunton

Staunton Mayor, Lacy King, shed light on the past and looked forward to the future during his State of the City presentation during the city council meeting Thursday night.

King said the city recently adopted a strong vision for the future, stretching all the way to 2020.

Six crucial areas were outlined, including basic human services, quality infrastructure, outreach and involvement, economic development, natural environment and livability, and cultural vitality.

King says, "Our city has come through a long period of introspection, of renewal, of growth and adjustment. We have built a strong foundation for a strong future, and are beginning to see those efforts bear fruit. Things are happening in Staunton."

He added he is committed to make the 2008 budget work without cutting essential services or raising the tax rate.
