New National Literacy Program

Toys for Tots is known for delivering Christmas presents to needy children.

Now the Quantico-based charity run by the Marines is launching a children's literacy program.

The group will collect books and deliver them disadvantaged children. The effort is aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and youth illiteracy.

Toys for Tots officials say the charity will raise money to buy books and help fund literacy programs at libraries, schools and nonprofit organizations nationwide.
