The former director of the Berkeley County chapter of the American Red Cross has admitted taking more than $12,000 from the disaster relief organization.
Forty-three-year-old Jonathan Jarrell entered the plea to one count of felony embezzlement Monday as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Jarrell resigned from the Red Cross in July 2006, six months before organization officials filed a complaint with police. The complaint followed a review of accounting records.
Under the plea agreement, Jarrell would receive a one-to-ten-year suspended prison sentence and five years of probation. He would also be ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and pay court costs and restitution.
Sentencing is set for May 5.
