Community Mourns for Teen

A Valley community is mourning the death of a Wilson Memorial High School student who died after her Jeep overturned.

The accident happened at about 9:30 Tuesday night on Barrenridge Road in Fishersville.

State police say 16-year-old Evanne Coffman was driving when she ran off the road and overcompensated by making a hard turn, which caused the Jeep to flip.

They say she was in the car alone and she was not wearing her seat belt. State police are investigating the cause of the crash but believe the rainy weather may have contributed to it.

On Wednesday, Wilson Memorial administrators had additional counselors on hand and they say the most important thing a school can do is let students grieve.

One student, Jennifer Mitchell, says, "They let the close friends take their time, and there were some posters up with messages to Evanne, and her parking space is being decorated."

Staff at the school say they are planning a way to memorialize Coffman.
