'Cool' Town

Fayetteville's extreme sports and hip Bohemia may seem worlds away from the buttoned-up state Senate, but senators think the Fayette County town is pretty cool.

So cool, in fact, they voted Thursday to authorize the Division of Highways to erect signs designating it as the coolest small town in America.

Senator Shirley Love said a marketing team from West Virginia University suggested the signs after Budget Travel Magazine named Fayetteville one of America's five "coolest" small towns.

The Fayette County Democrat said curiosity alone may prompt some of the 25,000 motorists who travel Route 19 daily to visit Fayetteville's hip restaurants, shops, whitewater rafting and the New River Gorge.

Fayetteville's coolness now goes before the House of Delegates.
