A child and three others were killed in a house fire Friday night in Augusta County. It happened at a mobile home on Bolling Heights Lane around 10 p.m.

Churchville Assistant Fire Chief Craig Williams said when crews arrived, the home had flames and smoke coming from it. He said one person was outside with four others trapped inside the mobile home.

Williams said crews were able to get one person out of the home. That person was taken to the hospital, but died on the way there. The three others trapped were found dead inside the mobile home.

Investigators told family members at the scene what happened. Those family members were overcome with emotion, shedding tears and trying to explain what happened to others over a cell phone.

State police has been brought in to investigate what started the fire. Firefighters believe it started on the porch and spread inside the home.
