Drivers heading south on Main Street in Harrisonburg had to change their driving patterns Thursday.
Traffic is being re-routed during construction of a pedestrian tunnel for James Madison University. For the next three months, orange cones will occupy south bound lanes along Main Street from Cantrell to Warsaw avenues.
Commuters and business owners have mixed feelings about the detour.
Commuter Loretta Blank says, "It wasn't difficult at all for me today. I just followed the detour signs and was able to get here in no time. I only come down here every four or five weeks when I need a hair cut."
Mike Testerman, Buffalo Wild Wings, says, "It's going to probably take an extra five minutes because I have to take South High Street. So it's going to be a bit of a problem, but I'll get used to it."
South-bound traffic will be diverted onto Cantrell Avenue and then onto South High Street. You can return north-bound to Main Street via Maryland Avenue.
