The weather may not be looking too good for the weekend, but that won't affect this year's annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Simply set out some non-perishable food items in a bag by your mailbox, and your mail carrier will pick it up with your mail.

The U.S. Postal Service officials says canned food is best and people should try to avoid breakable containers. They say they collected several tons of food for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank last year, but with tough economic times, they say they'll understand if it's a little harder to give.

"I realize with the price of food and everything, we're probably going to get a little bit less this year. But we're hoping that we won't be, and the people need to know that we can do all we can as far as advertising, but without our patrons putting the food there, it's not going to be successful at all," says Sheldon N. Propst, a City letter carrier with the USPS.

This is the 16th time for the postal carrier's food drive.
