The Virginia Department of Transportation is already planning to make the roads safer for winter.

Wednesday, VDOT announced it will be adding markings to several major roads to make them more visible during snow and fog.

The markings will be safe to be plowed over.

In Augusta County, the new markers will be placed on routes 254, 608, 612 and 654. In Rockingham County, they will be on routes 11, 33, 42 and 259.

Work will start on Monday and it should be finished by October.
