Local kids are getting a lesson in safety Thursday and they're also getting a reward.

The Harrisonburg Fire Fighters stopped by Harris Gardens to hand out helmets to kids on bikes and skateboards.

The children were fitted. They also got coupons for a free Chic-Fil-A kid's meal and coloring books on bicycle safety.

The fire fighters say they will return at random times to check and make sure the kids are still wearing their helmets.
