AUGUSTA COUNTY -- Gov. Bob McDonnell approved a major expansion at a Valley plant. That means close to $30 million in upgrades to Hollister Inc., which makes medical supplies.
Some of the investment will go toward expanding the Hollister plant with 50,000 additional square feet. Most of the money will be used to automate parts of the manufacturing process with robotic equipment.
Hollister employs about 500 people and the upgrades will ensure that the jobs in the county stay there.
“Had the company chose somewhere other than Stuarts Draft, it's likely that jobs would have followed the investment. We're extremely pleased because we feel that not only do we get the investment but we were able to lock up long term the facility here in Augusta and protect the jobs that exist,” said Dennis Burnett, with Augusta County Economic Development.
Hollister Inc. also got a $250,000 state grant. That grant is an incentive for Virginia companies to continue to invest in buildings within the state.
