Some James Madison University students asked other students to fast all day Wednesday and donate their lunch money to the less fortunate.
On the first Wednesday of each month, the JMU "Fast 4 Food" program is asking students to forgo eating for the day and donate $4 to the needy.
Organizers hope the hunger from fasting will inspire students to donate.
Student coordinator Lexi Hutchins says, "Tweny-four-thousand people die each day from hunger. So that just got me thinking what can I do, cause you know, every little bit does help. There's someone we can make not hungry any more and fill their stomach."
The "Fast 4 Food" program is accepting food donations as well. The money and food donations will go to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and the Mercy Corps.
