People in the Valley who are looking to get the seasonal flu vaccination may be in for a wait.
Staunton resident Janita Daggy says she has heard plenty of talk about the flu the past few weeks.
She says, "A lot of people are worried about getting sick and getting the vaccinations and worried about not getting the vaccination."
Even with a shortage of vaccinations in the Valley, Daggy says she doesn't share those concerns.
She adds, "Honestly, I'm not worried about it. I understand people are concerned about the vaccination but I know I'm not getting it."
It's a different story for Staunton resident Elly Moloney.
Moloney says, "My aunt is very ill and her doctor advises her to have it but he doesn't have any in. So it is a bit of concern."
Dr. Doug Larsen with the Central Shenandoah Valley Health District says most of the Valley has already used up its first batch of seasonal flu vaccinations. He says officials don't expect another shipment until the end of December.
Larsen adds, "Harrisonburg and Staunton, our two largest offices, are now out."
However, Larsen says a later shot can still keep you protected even though most people should be getting their vaccinations around the end of October.
He says, "It's not too late when December rolls around if you haven't gotten your vaccine to get it, because that will then protect you for sure through the end of the flu season."
Larsen says the manufacturer is the cause for the delay in shipments. The company has slowed production of the seasonal vaccine in order to ramp up production of the H1N1 flu vaccine.
