The streets of downtown Harrisonburg and downtown Staunton were busy Saturday morning with kids getting in some early trick-or-treating.

Families in Staunton enjoyed the Farmers' Market and some activities for the kids.

The city offered the Halloween option as a safe, fun way to celebrate.

"Being out during the day and being able to see and kind of remember everywhere you're going and you know what treats came from where, you feel a little more comfortable than going out at night," says Angela Crawford, who came out with her daughter.

Many families say they'll still trick-or-treat in their own neighborhoods Saturday night.

Local store owners say they saw more children they expected.
