The walls are going up and the nails are being hammered into the first ever Habitat Home that will be modeled in a Victorian style, after other homes in its historic Staunton neighborhood.
This is a first for the group...that's aiming to make homeowners feel like they fit into the neighborhood where their home is being built.
Project Manager Dewey Feuerhelm says, "We want to demonstrate we can be equally helpful in maintaining an atmosphere in the environment where the people live so that it doesn't look or stand out or the homeowner doesn't feel that why is my home different from everybody else's in the area."
The two story Victorian style home that will go up here will take four months to construct.
Feuerhelm says they decided upon a Victorian style after meeting with the potential homeowner. "We sit down with the homeowner and discuss the cost and what they are able to pay and the size requirement for the house-the house is built to fit the family."
Soon to be homeowner, Nikki Simmons, is proud to live in this unique home. She says it will be a great place to raise her two kids. "I've definitely been blessed in many ways and that just goes to show how great of an organization habitat is and what they have to offer people like me who couldn't afford a home on their own."
