WAYNESBORO, Va -- The ambassador program hopes to boost the economy and the image of Waynesboro to bring more business to the area. That way, people who visit could tell others about the Valley and bring even more tourists to visit.
The program is called the “Greater Waynesboro Travel Ambassador Program.” The idea is to get people more involved in the city.
Ambassadors would volunteer at local events, serve on tourism boards and familiarize themselves with the city. Ambassadors would get discounts to some events and recognition as an ambassador.
Program supporters hope the ambassador program will jump start the local economy. Anyone can sign up for the program, including city employees or volunteers.
Neighbors and tourism industry-related business owners jump started the tourism program. They say they saw potential in Waynesboro for people traveling through and could promote the city's growth.
