HARRISONBURG -- At a recent Augusta County Public School Board meeting, faculty at Riverheads Elementary School brought up a major concern.
Riverheads Elementary School requested an upgrade to the school's electrical system. The faculty says it's needed to accommodate technological advancements in the school.
One of the reasons being that students today need to take tests online. They say that 75 percent of the electrical equipment is more than four decades old.
The cost of upgrading the technology at that school would be an estimated $476,000.
Augusta County Superintendent Chuck Bishop thinks there are cheaper ways around the repairs.
"Do we spend a hundred dollars on electrical upgrades now and later on, two three five years from now build a new building. That might not be the best use of the five hundred thousand dollars," said Bishop.
The board will meet on July 11 to discuss what will be done about the electrical upgrades to Riverheads elementary school.
At the meeting, personnel changes were also made.
Fonda Morris will be the new Principal at Craigsville Elementary school. Marguerite McDonald will move to Riverheads Elementary school and Kathleen Overstreet will move to Verona in the fall.
"None of these moves are punitive at all, they're all. You know we look forward to having these three ladies in new positions and new schools and they'll continue to provide positive leadership for our school division," said Bishop regarding the changes.
