FISHERSVILLE, Va. (WHSV) -- Augusta Health held an open house for its new joint center Monday. It's part of the hospital's new approach to knee and hip replacement surgeries.

Buel and Becky Messer are up and moving again after surgery and say that group rehab helped speed up their recoveries.

"I think most people are competitive in one way or another. And I think it keeps each of the patients just a little more motivated to do just a little bit more," said Becky Messer, a knee replacement patient.

The hospital said another big part of the new approach is doing more to teach patients and their families about the surgery.
