Sheriff's Office Investigating Armed Robbery

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for an armed robbery at 7-Eleven on Spotswood Trail, at about 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The sheriff's office is saying that a man entered the store, approached the checkout counter and asked for a carton of Marlboro Reds. When the clerk returned, there was a note on the counter from the man demanding money. The man then showed the clerk a handgun and the clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of money. The man then left the store in an unknown direction. The sheriff's office believes the suspect entered the parking lot after driving eastbound on Route 33.

The vehicle is described as a dark colored, Dodge two-toned pick-up truck with top marker cab lights and possibly a dog box on the back of the truck bed area.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-10-inch man, weighing 180 pounds, in either his late 40s or early 50s with partly gray scruffy facial hair. At the time of the alleged robbery, he was wearing a camouflage jacked with a hood, a camouflage baseball-style hat, blue jeans.

The store was reopened by 6 a.m.
