The holiday season can be lonely and difficult for some of our seniors in the Valley and that was why Home Instead Senior Care leaders started the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program.
Seniors across the Valley wrote down on paper ornaments what they would like for Christmas. Most of those items are simple, like blankets, slippers, clothes and books. They even are asking for basic care items, like shampoo and soaps.
Organizers said most people don't realize how much a simple gesture means to the seniors. They get a useful gift and little holiday joy.
"We also have a lot of folks that are at end of life, and they ask for basic things like nutritional drinks like Boost and Ensure, personal care items like adult diapers, and things like that. It's kind of sad to think that that's what you want for Christmas, but it's what some people desperately need," said Jeanne Russell with Home Instead Senior Care.
You can find the ornaments at Walmart and other stores across the Valley to sponsor a senior. All you have to do is pick an ornament, buy the item listed and take it directly to customer service.
Several Valley organizations have helped make a difference, including Dynamic Aviation and Walmart.
