HARRISONBURG, Va -- Owners of the Yellow Button Clothing Boutique and Ten Thousand Villages said they had fewer customers on small business Saturday than last year.
Miranda Ebersold, owner of the Yellow Button, said Black Friday was actually their busiest day last week and not Small Business Saturday. She opened earlier than usual and had deals during the day. She says many people choose to shop at local stores to avoid the large crowds.
"It is the biggest shopping day of the whole entire year so I was pleased it was better than last year. But I expected that it would be," said Ebersold.
Valerie Weaver, director of Ten Thousand Villages, said the turnout during the weekend was disappointing.
"I thought more people would be tuned in small businesses even on Black Friday, but I think more people are looking for the discounts," said Weaver.
Weaver said Black Friday is geared toward big retailers and that says days like Cyber Monday also hurt the business.
