HARRISONBURG -- Thirty three businesses in the Valley are Virginia Green certified. That means owners use eco-friendly ways to run their businesses.

Several other businesses made it to the Virginia Green Event and Expo to learn about getting green certified. Owners learned about recycling and energy conservation.

The initiative targets tourism businesses in the Commonwealth.

One of the currently green certified businesses is Harrisonburg's Friendly City Co-op. Erin Shehane works there and she said the cost of going green is worth it.

"It might cost a little more on our ends to make sure we're providing green options for our customers, but ultimately in the long run we know we're preserving the environment and preserving natural resources," she said.
