"Buzkill" Comic Causing Controversy

STAUNTON,Va. (WHSV) -- A controversial new comic book is causing a buzz because the main character gets his super powers from alcohol and drugs.

The comic in question is "Buzzkill."

The plot centers around Ruben, an alcoholic trying to stay clean, but that proves difficult since drinking is how he gets his super strength.

Even if it's not targeted to kids, the Director of the Central Shenandoah Valley Office on Youth, Melissa Orndorff, fears "Buzzkill" could give kids the wrong idea about drinking and drugs.

"Just the fact that it's a comic book is going to make it appealing to young people. And so I'd just really encourage parents to have those open communications, know what their kids are reading, know what they're watching on TV," said Orndorff.

The first of four "Buzzkill" comics hit stores Wednesday.
