RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Richmond's electoral board is working to collect nearly $90,000 in fines owed by local candidates who didn't file campaign finance reports or filed their reports late.

A list compiled by the city registrar's office shows that 47 candidates owe fines.

Former City Council President William Pantele is listed as owing a $7,500 fine. He tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that he wasn't aware of the fine and he plans to pay it.

Former School Board member Carol Wolf also says she didn't know she owed a fine. She paid an $8,750 fine on Friday but plans to appeal it.

City Registrar J. Kirk Showalter says the candidates were notified in March that their accounts would be turned over for collection if they didn't pay.
