HARRISONBURG, Va -- West Side Baptist Church leaders wanted to honor people who serve the country with pride. Troy Pearson, the church's pastor, said they celebrated heroes who fight for our freedom.
“We realize there have been many men and women over the years who have fought and even sacrificed their lives to make sure we have those rights,” said Pearson. “So we wanted to maybe have an opportunity to give back and maybe recognize some of the efforts that they've made on our behalf.”
A program at the church started at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night. A local author was scheduled to speak about a book he wrote about the war.
