WAYNESBORO, Va. -- A church for deaf people will celebrate one year after its founding this weekend.
The deaf church is held at Wayne Hills Baptist Church. The group started a year ago and since then it's had nearly 60 people attend its services.
Sue Browning, a volunteer with the church, said it gives deaf people a way to participate in services.
“In the hearing church, they were sitting and just watching the interpreter,” said Browning. “They weren't really understanding. Now, they have that opportunity to really understand the Bible more clearly and in their language.”
Leaders of the church said the deaf church has had visitors from throughout Virginia.
