WAYNESBORO - The Waynesboro City Council approved more than 200,000 dollars to upgrade the Broad Street Bridge Monday night.

The money for this project comes from the council's Capital Projects Fund.

The Waynesboro city manager, Michael Hamp, said the bridge is in major need of reconstruction.

"It's the bypass road in the downtown area and carries a lot of truck traffic in particular is our concern for this bridge," Hamp said.

Hamp also said it is normal to transfer money from the council's Capital Projects Fund to bridges in the area that need renovations.

Any extra money that is not needed for the bridge project will go back to the city's General Fund.
