City Council Approves Upgrades to MRAP

HARRISONBURG, Va. During Tuesday night's city council meeting, council members approved the transfer of $30,000 to purchase new equipment for the police department's Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected armored personnel vehicle, also known as an MRAP.

Some people in the community worry that the vehicle is too excessive for Harrisonburg and will create tension between the public and the police; however, others said it is important to be prepared for every scenario possible and we need to trust our law enforcement.

David Briggman, who lives in Keezletown said, "As a second amendment advocate and former police officer, I realize police need protection. But, I think city council needs to set some sort of protocol for the expectation and use of this vehicle."

Members of the city council said, it is important to have strong protocols in place, but the hope and prayer is that the community will not ever need to use it.
