HARRISONBURG -- Harrisonburg City Council members are considering a request to name a street after Martin Luther King Jr., but a different location could be named instead.
City council looked into changing the name of either Vine Street or Cantrell Avenue. Some people who live on those streets don't want to change their address.
Now, city council members are considering other landmarks and streets to name after King. One possibility is the bridge on Cantrell Avenue near JMU's Memorial Hall.
Richard Baugh, a member of city council said they are going to keep looking for the right place.
“The good news for people who would like to see something like this is there seems to be really solid council support for doing something. The challenge is figuring out what is really the best something to do,” said Baugh.
Harrisonburg City Council will talk about those different options during the next few months.
