BRIDGEWATER --One college in the Valley is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. The Civil War Institute at Bridgewater College held four different lectures on the civil war.
Some included race, the impact of civilians during the battle, military history, and photographs. Professor of History Stephen Longenecker said there is more to know about the war than just two sides fighting.
"For some reason this war seems to be easy to romanticize, there's a good bit of that in popular culture. Bridgewater Civil War Institute tries to steer away from that," said Longenecker.
Longenecker said they try to provide a realistic look into the battle. The event was open to the public. This is the sixth year of the Civil War Institute.
