STAUNTON, Va ---- Mary Baldwin College professors can expect a $500 bonus on their next paycheck. For the seventh year in a row the college has a balanced budget.
The president said the bonus for professors is an investment in the faculty and that record fundraising and financial discipline left them with $175,000 in surplus. The majority of that surplus will go to professors and the remainder will be saved for unexpected expenses.
Mary Baldwin College President Dr. Pamela Fox said why the money was given to professors instead of going to the students.
“Part of the budget for last year in going forward into next year is that we've also increased our support to students, we've increased financial aid,” said Dr. Fox. “This was something above those changes that we had already made. To support our students is our first priority.”
Fox said investing in the faculty like this is another priority for academic excellence.
