PAGE COUNTY, Va -- Johnny Woodward works for Page County as the chairman of the board of supervisors and he said the board is always trying to bring jobs to the area.

"Our goal is to bring them here, but keep the ones we have and add to them," said Woodward.

Lately, he said, keeping those jobs here has been tough.

KVK Precision Specialties just laid off 20 workers, leaving about 80 people left to work at the manufacturing plant. This is not the first time this small town has seen major layoffs. More than 90 people were laid off at the Genie plant last year.

"I feel it's a huge impact to the town of Shenandoah because they lost the Genie plant a short time ago and now hopefully this will only be for a short period of time, not a long time."

These new layoffs add to the high 9-percent unemployment rate in Page County.

Jeff Vaughan, KVK's owner, said one of his clients outsourced jobs to China and that was what forced him to get rid of 20-percent of his staff.

"Anytime you outsource, you know, manufacturing jobs that would be able to manufacture here in the states that goes off shore, it's a big impact," said Vaughan.

These layoffs in Page County may influence how people vote in November.

"With elections coming up, that's something to be considered,” said Woodward. “We need to keep our jobs in the United States and locally too and that's a lot of manufacturing jobs. Not only our county, but the country has lost a lot of manufacturing jobs in the past, and we need to do something to bring them back."

The owner of KVK said he hopes this is only temporary and that he will find other customers to hire more workers back.
