AUGUSTA COUNTY -- Sheriff's deputies are keeping you safe in new ways. It's now adding patrols on secondary roads, not just primary.

A deputy said many people died in crashes this year and there have been numerous DUI arrests lately. He said the sheriff's office is able to keep more patrols out with a DMV grant.

He says he hopes the added checkpoints will prevent deadly crashes.

"There's no specific area where these fatalities are, and we're learning that a lot of these accidents happen on those secondary roads. We're going to start focusing on those secondary roads," said Monty Sellers, a deputy with the Augusta County Sheriff's Office.

Sellers says the department will add more deputies on the weekends on the secondary roads.
