DUI Defense App Gives Legal Advice

SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Va -- If you ever get pulled over and you're afraid, there's an app that claims to help you protect your rights when your in that situation.

The app is called "Oh Crap" and it markets itself as a DUI defense app.

It has been gaining popularity as it features include a list of rights someone has when their pulled over, contact numbers to local lawyers, and a voice recorder which backs up to a server.

We spoke to a police officer who thinks the features are useful but it shouldn't deter people from making wiser choices.

"What a concern might be is that someone uses the "Oh Crap" app as an alternative for really safe driving by abandoning the use of a safe driver or taxi cab," says Sgt. Brian Edwards with the Waynesboro Police Department.

Police also say drivers should be careful when pulling out their cell phones during a traffic stop because an officer might mistake it for a weapon.
