HARRISONBURG -- The Democractic primary in Virginia faces different challenges than the one for Republicans.
People have a chance to choose the Democractic slate, while Republicans already did that in a closed convention.
A Democractic primary is costly to arrange, due to the staffing that is needed at precincts.
Leaders of the Harrisonburg Electoral Board wanted to remind people that the primary is open to all registered voters, not just Democrats.
A concern is that people will not vote in the upcoming primary.
"One of the precincts we have is a central absentee ballot precinct, so far even though it has been open now for about three weeks now, we don't have a single vote there," said Jim Gilchrist, a chair on the Harrisonburg Electoral Board.
