HARRISONBURG, Va -- The L & S Diner made some changes to their Labor Day schedule. The current owners bought the diner almost five years ago, and have never opened on a holiday, until this year.
Stools were hard to come by on Monday morning at L & S Diner.
The diner is normally closed on Sundays and every holiday, but on Monday, they opened from 5:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
A waitress said she has been working at the diner for almost four years. She said they normally close on holidays to give employees a day off and to spend time with their families.
This year they changed things around because of customer demand.
"We usually go to the beach on this weekend, all of us get together,” said Jeanie Depoy, a waitress at the diner. “With the prices and the economy, we decided to stay here and give back to the community. We had a couple customers ask us to stay open."
Depoy said she likes working at the diner and it did not matter to her if she had to work on Labor Day.
Customers are requesting breakfast seven days a week and managers at L & S diner plan to start opening on Sundays starting in late September.
