Dump the Pump Day was a day to remind drivers how they could find new ways to get around and avoid the ups and downs of gas prices at the same time. Drivers said they would like to try to avoid the cost of driving a car if they could.
The American Public Transportation Association reported that if a two person household downsized to using just one car instead of two, that family could save an average of $10,000 a year.
While some drivers said it was a good idea to find new ways to get around, others said sometimes you just cannot avoid it. One driver, Lydia Lund, who lives in Washington D.C., said it is easier to go without a car depending on where you live and work.
"Being in a bigger city, you can take the bus, walk, bike,” said Lund. “It helps when there are sidewalks and paths for people who want to run or use those bike paths."
She said she used to carpool with co-workers to work to save on gas money.
