On Thursday, Valley employers became better equipped to handle the hiring of military personnel. Many of them attended an education seminar to get informed on USERAA.

That is also known as the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. It protects our service members when they leave for a tour of duty.

It also allows them to reclaim the job they once had or get hired for one they would have had before being called to action.

Today, Valley employers learned how to handle situations that may arise when dealing with a service member.

“We're going to talk about the nuances of all those types of issues and what each, the service member as well as the employer has to do regarding the federal law. Basically, we'll be doing everything that we can to let them know what the federal law USERRA requires,” said Lt. Col. Cindy Norwood, with the Va Dept Veterans Services.

Further information about USERAA can be found at the Virginia Attorney General's office.
