Fitz To Return to Court in August

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Delano Fitz will next be in court when his trial begins on August 25.

Fitz faces charges including first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony after police say he shot and killed Traman Turner on Christmas Eve last year.

Both lawyers agreed on a later date, so Fitz waived his right to a speedy trial.

Wednesday's hearing lasted about six minutes.

Fitz showed up at a home on Commerce Drive, got into some sort of an argument with Turner, who was seeing Edasha Williams, Fitz's ex-girlfriend, and ended us shooting Turner multiple times, according to police.

Neighbors on Commerce Drive didn't want to go on camera; however, one said that after the shooting happened, she didn't worry about her safety.

When speaking with Williams, she became emotional while talking about the shooting that she said happened right outside her home.

She said she and her kids witnessed the shooting.

"Justice for Traman and closure for my kids. Just want to thank everybody for their support and their love to me and my kids," said Williams.

In court Wednesday, the judge told Fitz to use the time before his five-day trial to prepare himself.

Fitz will have a separate trial for another firearm charge after the murder trial wraps up.
