STAUNTON, Va -- Food banks of all sizes, large and small, need food donations. When smaller shops run out of food, they look to larger food pantries for help.

A soup kitchen at Trinity Episcopal Church relies on donations and people's generosity to run.

Volunteers said they are thankful for whatever help they can get. They feed a meal nearly every day of the week in Staunton.

The kitchen has had food shortages, but they are thankful they were able to help as many people as they could.

“The food always comes. There's always food in the refrigerator we can always heat up. There's a pantry that we always have access to. Trinity's very blessed in that their pantry and refrigerator's always filled with some kind of food,” said Deb Kirtland, a volunteer at the food pantry.

Need in the Valley is up by about 15 percent in all types of food banks, including the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Verona. Food pantries need types of non-perishable foods including things like, cereal, pasta and canned food.
