DOOMS, Va -- A pair of family friends led an effort Monday night to support the family that lost an 11-year-old boy, Dustyn Gibson, in a house fire. It is an effort that organizers said has had support pouring in.

Ashley Dyer and Felicia Lambert work with Dustyn's mom, Michelle, at the Waynesboro Little Caesars, but it is their close friendship that has them wanting to make sure Michelle has everything she needs to move forward after the death of her son.

“Michelle's always had a humorous personality, so I'm hoping that she bounces back,” said Felicia. “I think it's going to take her a little bit. I think that she'll be able to do it though.

That was yesterday, hours after Michelle Gibson lost her son. On Monday, her friends said that the road to recovery had already started. Support and condolences were steady.

“We have tried everything we could do to help this family. Facebook, calling people, calling churches. I have a 4-year-old, so I made sure, Austin, the baby, had clothes,” said Ashley.

Austin was the first to see the fire that would take his brother's life. The brother, who Felicia remembers, as her own personal friend.

“He is my pal. He was my little chunky monster. Never was a day I didn't see him that he didn't have a smile on his face. He would always tell me before I left, 'I love you Fifi,'”said Felicia.

Ashley and Felicia are parents themselves and they know that Michelle needs all the support she can get right now. Losing a child is something no one should have to deal with alone.

“I'm torn just knowing it happened. It didn't have to happen like this. Dustin is a good kid,” said Ashley.

Felicia told a WHSV reporter that Michelle did not have a life insurance policy for Dustyn. She needs $6,000 to lay him to rest. Family and friends of Michelle are asking that support and condolences be directed to 473 North Bath Ave. in Waynesboro or the Little Caesars Pizza in Waynesboro. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
