HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- As the holiday season gets closer, it is a great time to splurge on gifts. It may also be the best time to purchase a new home.
Suzanne Bothamley, Associate Broker with Funkhouser Real Estate Group, said homes in this area have been doing consistently better throughout 2013.
Even with the government shutdown, Bothamley said the national picture does not completely reflect what we have been seeing here locally.
In fact, she said our market has been stronger than many of the other markets in Virginia and the rest of the country.
Bothamley said there are many positives for purchasing a home at this time of the year. She said interest rates are very good and buying power is also strong. Plus, there are still some great purchases out there which will allow some really great deals.
"We still see healthy activity which is going to continue. The shutdown, although it was a glitch, is not affecting our area as much as some of the other areas. This is very encouraging and will hopefully take us into a good holiday season and beginning of next year," said Bothamley.
Bothamley said we still have to remember that some of the higher-end priced homes are still not selling as quickly as some of the lower range prices. But, in the Valley she said she is still seeing healthy activity which is going to continue.
