HARRISONBURG, Va. - Since Harrisonburg and the surrounding area are expected to get hit with a lot of snow Tuesday night and Wednesday, stores in the area are joining in that effort by stocking up on supplies.
Assistant Manager Robert Mishler said one thing to know is that a lot of people really wait until the last minute to buy things like a snow shovel.
They started preparing over the weekend to make sure they'd have shelves stocked, ahead of any bad weather.
That includes everything from salt to basic batteries.
Department heads ordered batteries and other needed items on Saturday.
This week the outside of the store is lined with rows of salt and shovels, and store employees distribute salt to numerous businesses in the area.
Mishler said flashlights, batteries and heaters are other popular items are expected to go.
Mishler recommends grain scoops for when the snow gets really deep.
Right now, there are already 225 snow shovels in stock and Mishler's best advice is to plan ahead.
"Get yourself a good snow shovel and don't wait until it's snowing because once it starts the snow shovels just walk out of here," Mishler said.
The Rockingham Co-Op will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m and there are other stores, such as Lowes that carry the same items.
