Say the word “snow” and lots of people begin heading to stores to stock up on supplies.

Workers at Rocking R Ace Hardware in Harrisonburg say they started stocking up early ahead of this expected snowfall because they knew when the snow arrived, they were going to be busy.

They had snow shovels lined up at the door and they are expecting more customers as the snow begins to fall into the evening hours.

Store manager Bill Freeman says there are common items customers buy just before any storm.

"Our busiest thing today has been ice melt, we have contractors coming in to pick up ice melt, homeowners picking up ice melts, and also people coming in for shovels,” said Freeman.

Freeman said that ice melt is their biggest item for winter prep and they order it by the truckload every year.
